Lacuna CCG
A new paradigm in CCG games

Hi, I'm Luka (or Groobi)
Have you ever played a modern TCG and noticed how little say the players actually have? The balancing, the art, the direction are all decided behind closed doors. I have, a lot. And I kept asking myself: *what would I do if I made my own?*
I've played way too many card games. The big ones (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic, Pokémon, One Piece, Dragon Ball Super, Flesh and Blood, Lorcana, Riftbound), the niche ones (Weiß Schwarz, Cardfight!! Vanguard), and the truly obscure ones (Ben 10 TCG, Dinosaur King, the Initial D card game... yes, I have a problem). I tried to make something that is familiar enough to veteran TCG players, but still refreshing.
The world, in short
Reality was once whole. Then the Sundering tore it apart into drifting Shards, each one claimed and shaped by a single magical force. Between them lies the Void, where erased things go to be forgotten.
You are a Voidborn: a being formed out of the Void itself, with no name and no memory. You're the only kind of being who can walk between Shards and command their power. Every Shard holds a Fragment of who you once were.
When two Voidborn meet, there's only one way to settle whose vision of the future wins.

How it plays
- Evolving Leaders: choose a hero who evolves twice during the match, unlocking stronger abilities as the game goes on.
- No lands, no screw: any card can be played face-up as a resource, so every hand is playable.
- Life Cards: knock out your opponent until they have no life cards, then deal the finishing blow.
- 400+ cards already in the game, with 200+ more in design.

The Eight Shards
Each Shard has a clear identity that TCG veterans will recognize instantly. The colours carry decades of meaning across card games, and shuffling them around would throw that away. The fresh stuff comes from combining them.
- Chaos: The Free Flame: aggro, burn, immolation, equipment spam, resurrection
- Shadow: The Mourning Court: reanimator, drain, pings, last words, sacrifice, destruction
- Nature: The Overgrowth: ramp, traps, tokens, +X/+X, huge monsters
- Silver: The Forgeborn: tokens, voltron, relics, decrees
- Arcane: The Paradox: spellslinger, counterspells, card draw, combos
- Void: The Unwritten: banishment, erasure, milling, wipes, strange interactions
- Light: The Gilded Cage: pacify, angels, healing, board wipes, guard, duality
- Colorless: The Driftborn: flexible tools, card advantage, light removal, tribal
Dual-Shard Leaders are where Lacuna really gets its own identity. Leaders like Thornfire (Chaos + Nature) and Archive (Shadow + Arcane) bring interactions you won't find in any single Shard, and more are on the way.

FAQ
Is it free?
Yes. Lacuna is and will stay free to play. No pay-to-win, ever.
How can I support development?
The best support right now is playing, giving feedback and telling your TCG friends. If you want to chip in for server costs, there's a Ko-fi https://ko-fi.com/groobi, and a Patreon will follow once the community grows, as so does server costs. Every cent goes back into the game, and the first priority is paying real artists (see below).
Will there be a physical release?
That's the dream. I think playing a TCG in person is the best way to experience it, so I'll try to make it happen. In the meantime, print-and-play proxies are exactly how I test the game myself, and I'll share printable files with the community.
Will it be on Steam?
That's the plan. A Steam page is coming soon, and I'll post it in the Discord when it's up.
I have some questions about a certain mechanic
We have a plethora of learning guides, from the in-game interactive tutorial, to the detailed rulebook in the game and in pdf format.
The elephant in the room: AI art
I'll be straight with you. Some of the card art in Lacuna is AI-generated, and I don't love that either. Commissioning art for 400+ cards isn't realistic for a solo passion project right now, so I put my time into making the game itself as fun as possible.
My pledge: the end goal is to replace all AI art with real art from artists in the community, paid for their work. Money from supporting the game goes there first. I'm asking for your patience and understanding while we get there.
